Winter Barn

Limited edition ORIGINAL collagraph.

I photographed this barn several times on some rather bleak January walks with my dog. Rural scenes like this often get overlooked, but I felt the composition of the buildings would transfer really well to a collagraph print. I felt inspired by the muted colour palette and the scene's atmospheric potential too. I wanted to show there is beauty in winter drabness.

The textures on this print are provided by tissue paper, ripping and scoring the collage plate, and applying PVA glue mixed with Polyfilla. I have developed a fairly pared-down style when adding collaged materials to the plate and enjoy balancing textural elements with tonal contrast.

Each of the nine prints in this edition has been individually hand-inked using the "intaglio method". They have all been inked the same way, but there are slight variations due to the manual nature of applying and wiping the ink onto the plate surface.
