Through the Fog

£80.00

Limited edition ORIGINAL collagraph.

January in Dorset is when the landscape can look bleak, but also romantic when it's misty. Occasionally the visibility is so low, that it becomes a dense fog. A wintery walk up the path into Charity Woods during the lockdown in 2021 provided the inspiration. I could literally see nothing but the path in front of me, and the field to my left had completely disappeared into whiteness. The title alludes to an uncertain forward journey on an emotional level too.

The textures on this print are provided by tissue paper, ripping and scoring the collage plate, and applying PVA glue mixed with Polyfilla. Inspired by some research into oriental composition in art, the details are pared down and simplified. It wasn't difficult to envisage this approach, as nature had provided the perfect local scene for me to refer to.

Each of the twelve prints in this edition has been individually hand-inked using the "intaglio method". They have all been inked the same way, but there are slight variations due to the manual nature of applying and wiping the ink onto the plate surface.
